Armor

Armor is separated into 3 categories: Light, Medium, and Heavy.  Each category is worth a base value of Armor Points: 3, 5, and 7 respectively.  Real or authentic-looking armor gains the base value for the Armor Zone that it covers.  Fake representations for the armor (ex. A single layer of pleather with a hole cut in top and thrown over the players head is considered fake leather), give a lesser value for the zone that it covers: 2, 3, and 4 respectively.  The Head Zone gives double the amount of Armor Points.  The Hand and Foot Zones give half the amount of Armor Points.  A character can gain (stackable) Armor Points of 1 type from each category (ex.  A character may wear and gain Armor Points for a Padded Gambeson and Chainmail, but not a Padded Gambeson and Leather Armor).

  •
  • Expert and Naturalist characters start with Light and Medium Armor Proficiencies.
  •
  • Source characters begin play with only Light Armor Proficiency.
  •

Characters may wear armor that they do not have the proficiency for, but while doing so, they cannot use any Energy-based skills.

In addition to the normal Penalty, Naturalist characters who wear any metal armor of any kind cannot use skills with the [Nature] skill tag.

Calculation

To calculate Armor Points a player simply looks at what Armor Zones are covered and adds either the value for Real or Fake of the armor pieces particular category.  He adds this value for each zone covered and totals it.  At least Fifty percent (50%) of a Zone must be covered for the player to gain the benefit of Armor Points for that Zone.  Each individual armor piece is awarded an Armor Point total (ex.  If a player has 2 Leather bracers, each grants the character 3 Armor Points).  The character adds all of his Armor Points from all sources that he is wearing and uses the total as a ‘pool’ from which all damage is subtracted before the character takes Body Damage.
