Gods and Goddesses

Here you can find information on the Gods and Goddesses that wander through the world of Panthes. If you're lucky, or maybe not so, you might find yourself face-to-face with one in your adventures in Tarquinn.

Fate

Fate the god of death is ever burdened by his abilities. He is often referred to as the cursed god, the ever dying never dead. He is surrounded by a cloud of decay. Fate appears as a skeleton to all who see him for his own skin has rotted away as does the skin of those to get too close. Only Isabella has the strength to withstand his presence. Indeed in her presence he is made whole again. It is no wonder why he loves her so deeply. This very love was the foundation for most life. It is from the unity of Fate and Isabella that humanity came to be.

For three hundred years Fate lived a joyous life by Isabella’s side, he was whole again and his children were well and thriving as he watched lovingly from a distance. But Fate’s joy was not meant to last, for after three hundred years of life his first son, Adam, finally fell to the curse of Fate. As soon as this occurred Fate knew it was he who caused this. He had doomed all his children to the bitter fate of mortality. It was at that moment that Fate left his beloved wife for he could not bear to see her pain. It was on that day that Fate descended to earth to collect his son. While he tried to permit him extended life he could not for Adam had fought the curse for too long. So Fate took his fallen son in his arms, and began to wander the earth. Fate aimlessly wandered looking for a place to care for his son but everywhere he traveled he destroyed more and more life that his beloved Isabella created. Flowers, grass, and the flesh of his son rotted as he wandered. Fate knew he needed to find a place far from others where none of his other children would follow.

He sat under the shade of a great tree for Ayro’s sun beat heavily on the heart broken father. It wasn’t long before the tree itself began to rot. Exhausted and drained Fate fell asleep, cradling his son’s head in his lap. When he awoke, his son’s flesh had rotted completely, as had the great tree under which he slept. With the trunk rotted Fate looked into the hollowed husk of the once mighty tree. The tree had opened like a door to a labyrinth of tunnels where roots once searched for moisture. Fate followed the roots, carrying his son, deeper and deeper into a monstrous cavern lit with gems which reflected off a shallow pool and Fate knew he had found Adam’s resting place. From that day on Fate has taken it upon himself to keep and care for his fallen children in the world beneath.

Fate’s worshippers include; the dying, the dead, and their families.

Isabella

Isabella is the goddess of life. Without her presence existence would be limited to the gods and Chaos. Her compassion and love for Fate birthed humanity. It was her ability to manipulate life that made her union with death possible. Isabella is responsible for the plant life of on earth. It was Isabella who took advantage of Vellon’s and Rhone’s competition with the rock called Panthes. During their competition she ran amidst the up heaved earth, and pouring rain, scattering seeds so that the son she was carrying could have a beautiful place to live.

After the death of her first born, Isabella’s heart was broken and she rained tears on earth for three hundred days, one day for each year of her son’s life. Her tears were full of sorrow both for her lost son and the loss of Fate her beloved. For since that day Fate has lived in the underworld as caretaker of his fallen children. When the tears ended large puddles formed in rock clefts and crevasses, the living nature of those tears so steeped in loss cloaked themselves in sediment and the stone was born. The living rocks took the name stone born, due to the unusual manner of their creation. Since Fate’s departure into the underworld Isabella has been bombarded by advances from Khaine. Khaine’s attempts are entirely unappreciated by Isabella who is still in love with Fate, and still eagerly awaits his return.

Isabella’s worshipers include healers, mothers, and grateful children.

Vellon

Vellon is the god of the storm. He is shrouded in rain. He abhors the feel of dry earth and refuses to travel underground or in buildings for he loves the open skies. One of his most notable accomplishments is his capture of lightning. Vellon tied a net of clouds together forcing lightning into the gourd which he carries with him at all times. Vellon is also known for his rivalry with Rhone. While no one knows the true origin of the conflict all of creation is glad for it. It is well known that the world itself was shaped through their competition. The two great beings wished to test their strength against each other. With a bit of influence from Khaine the two powers were pressed into a competition of destruction and influence. The deity who most clearly shaped the world was the victor. The object of the competition was a massive rock named Panthes. The two were encouraged to unleash all their strength and ability on the rock. Vellon, laughing sent in his clouds to pour down rain and uncorked lighting while Rhone sweated away with his hammer. Rhone’s mountains washed flat with mud slides, his valleys filled with rain and became oceans. Lightning flashed, lighting the skies with Vellon’s accomplishment.

Vellon’s worshipers include farmers, sailors, and anyone in need of or in the midst of a storm.

Vellon was killed in 702 by the elemental Storm Moore, Tempest, when the two fought in an honorable duel. The Storm Moore, after absorbing Vellon's power, unknowningly released Lumen from Vellon's gord after the battle. Tempest was then trapped by the citizens of Tarquinn in a circle of energy created by moon and Source crystal.

Rhone

Rhone is the god of war and tactics. He loves nothing more than a good challenge or a fair fight. While war is his realm Rhone is not a ball of rage, though his anger is not something any seek to invoke. It would be a more accurate assessment to say he is calculating and determined. He is sometimes referred to as the great tactician. It is thanks to his cunning that the gods were able to carve heaven from the grip of Chaos. Whenever Rhone walks the mortal realm he is preceded by two great hounds of war; Onix and Effra. The two sniff continuously as if in search of something.

Occasionally the two return to Rhone’s side at which point they sniff a small hand bag and continue about their search. No one knows what it is exactly they are searching for, but most know better than to interfere. As the God of war Rhone is well known for his love of battle. He seeks constant competition on even terms. Many great priests and scholars believe this is the root of his rivalry with Vellon. Earth was reshaped by Rhone’s hammer and Vellon’s storm. When Rhone is not in competition with Vellon or wandering the earth in search of something he is battling the void of chaos in search of new power and domains.

Rhone’s worshipers include warriors, leaders, athletes, and anyone about to fight.

Source

Source is the goddess of knowledge, mistress of magic, and the final queen of the gods. It was shortly after the death of the first human, Source involved herself in humanities plight. At first she was able to make a great difference, as she enlightened humanity on an individual basis, but as the centuries continued mankind’s numbers grew exponentially. As they grew, so did the difficulty of the task lain out before her. Humanity (and its off shoots) was doomed to a mortal life, and Source was powerless to halt the curse of fate any longer. In time Source herself suffered the curse and her energies dissipated, scattered about by the winds of Panthes. Every bit of knowledge lost. Her broken body spread with her energy falling here and there in clumps of salty matter. After the death of Source humanity took up the mantle of the fallen and the source users where born. That is how Source gifted the world with magic.

Magic in its essence is the knowledge of all things. Knowledge is control and thus source grants her students control over powers beyond everyday understanding.  To this day bits of Source herself are used as a tool to focus arcane energies. Sometime after her demise a band of knowledge thirsty humans encountered the crystallized remains of Source, and instead of using it as a tool they consumed it in an attempt to incorporate Source’s great resources of power into themselves. This attempt flooded the humans minds with knowledge just as they suspected it would, but without the means to accesses it at will.

The layers of cosmic knowledge swam through their brains without any level of filter. Their finite minds were unable to cope with the information and they lost control of their sanity. Their minds now flow like a swirling tide of brilliance and lunacy. Their bodies could not cope with the divine energies focused in them and while they did not perish their bodies shrank and distorted, their skin greened and it saturated with energy, and their ears enlarged and tipped to gather information. These humans became the first goblins. It wasn’t long before their antics and unconventional methods led to their removal from their society. These outcasts soon formed their own society with its own ever changing rules.

Source’s worships include Source benders, sages, and fools

Source began a symbiotic relationship with one of her most devoted subjects, Ilthor Silverhand, when Tarquinn was transported to the darkest timeline by the Time Elemental. Now, back in the normal timestream, Ilthor helps Tarquinn fight the forces of Chaos as a weapon of the Goddess.

Ayro

Ayro is the God of fire, bane of darkness and cold. Ayro is unlike all the other Gods in the nature of his appearance. Ayro is a dragon, the only dragon. He is mysterious and powerful. He is not mentioned in the tales of old till around the disappearance of Vanity. His first deed of legend was done at Isabella’s request. He created the sun. It is he who gifted humanity with fire. Embers can trace their origins to the life of Ayro’s breath. It is a rare occurrence for Ayro to interact with mortals.

Aryo’s worshipers are few in number

Chastity

Chastity is the Goddess of purity and virtue. Born of innocence Chastity escaped with purity from the grasp of Chaos. To the world Chastity is known as the perpetual virgin, ever pure. Chastity is a goddess whose power has ever yet to be truly measured for no one has ever seen her involve herself directly. Whether she wishes to teach others independence or her virtue demands her neutrality it is uncertain.

Young women call on Chastity to give them strength when they face difficult situations that may compromise their morals. Knights and heroes fight for her honor and look to her for guidance when confronted with difficult decisions that tests the hearts. Chastity is often seen as the opposition to desire. Chastity is close to Isabella who is seen as the perpetual mother.

Chastity’s worshipers include innocents, youth, and defenders of the innocent

Offa

Offa is god of merriment, founder of the feast. By far the happiest deity, Offa is content in whatever situation he finds himself in. He likes nothing better than good food and wine. In fact Offa is nearly always drunk, as his rosy cheeks will attest too. On the rarest occasion it is possible to stumble across Offa during a brief spell of sobriety. During this time it is said Offa will do anything in his power to return to an inebriated state. This is no easy task as many a tavern has lost entire stocks of wine in the attempt to combat Offa’s legendary alcohol tolerance. The lucky few who have found Offa and helped him conquer his sobriety attest that the reward was well worth it.

Whether drunk or sober Offa is rarely serious, and while Offa is deeply loved by most, Rhone’s distain for Offa is by no means hidden. It is said that Offa failed Rhone in the conquest of heaven. No one knows to what extent but it is something that the other deities are able to forgive. Offa is renowned for his ability to share his gift with others. It is that very ability that caused the rift between Offa and Rhone, as he is the one that has granted free will to the forged taking away Rhone’s endlessly loyal army.

Offa’s worshipers include; feasters, service industry workers, and those suffering difficulties

Khaine

Khaine is the god of passion and desire, mischievous master. The red skin of Khaine symbolizes passion. Khaine’s missing hand stands as warning to all that what we want sometimes comes at a cost. Khaine’s missing hand is a topic he does not relish and so he is hesitant to discuss it, unless he sees an advantage in it for him, even then it is not certain whether or not he is telling the truth. There are countless stories on that topic with little indication as to which one is true.

It is true that all the deities are self interested to a degree but Khaine upstages them all. Not only does Khaine shamelessly pursue his own desires. He enjoys nothing more than to manipulate the actions of those around him based off their desires. A master of manipulation, Khaine has shaped worlds for his own amusement. He has fooled gods and mortals alike. The power of desire is ultimately the power over others, if you control a man’s desire you control the man. Yet at times unattainable desires are more bane than boon.

For centuries now Khaine has desired the life goddess Isabella but his advances are met with cold resentment and rejection. As the god of desire he must pursue his passions, and so if he is unable to have the mother he has satiated himself on the daughters of life. Thus the children of Khaine came to be. It is said that any human who gives herself to Khaine will have her heart’s desire fulfilled. Khaine’s power is manipulation and control. Khaine is quick to take advantage of any worthwhile opportunity as are his followers. Without desire nothing would ever be accomplished or improved. The god of desire is not known for his restraint. Life is about passion and Khaine is the master of manipulating those emotions.

Khaine’s worshipers include conmen, politicians, pranksters, and those young in love.

Vanity

Vanity is the goddess of beauty, she is said to be responsible for the skies brilliant blues and golden sunsets. Her vision of beauty pricked holes in the dark cover of night. It was vanity who graced the night sky with starlight. Vanity herself is a vision of pure unfiltered beauty. She is life at its most visually stunning and she knows it. Vanity was known best for the magic mirror she carried at all times. The mirror only possesses the ability to reflect perfection, for Kendel crafted it from the finest materials in the universe.

Vanity was the only being ever able to see a full reflection and she made certain to let others know this fact. Unfortunately for the whole of creation she has not been seen for a great many years. Not since the dragon god Ayro first became known to the mortal world. The disappearance of Vanity has done little to hamper the worship of her. Beauty is a thing that many desire. Men wish it from their wives and lovers while women wish it for themselves. Beauty is a thing of wonder in and of itself. It has the power to captivate every living thing. It is rumored that one day a woman will usurp Vanity. There are murmurs that this is the reason for her absence. Yet such things are spoken in secret, for the wrath of a god is nothing to scoff at not to mention the rage of a goddess scorned.

Vanity’s worshipers include; young maids, brides, grooms, and lovers of all ages.

Kendel

Kendel is the god of inspiration; smith of the gods. His influence is as widespread as imagination.  Kendel is known for the great many wondrous items he has crafted from his forge, such as Vanities Mirror, Rhones hammer, and Harkens orb of power. Kendel inspiration has also in essence created life at least twice.

The first of these stories dates back to the great war with Chaos many eons ago. Rhone being the tactician he is noticed the advantage that metal suits of armor would provide to all of the gods, and as a result commanded Kendel to craft the greatest suits of armor he can for them. After the completion of the suits Rhone was inspired by Kendel’s work with the idea of having Isabella breathe life into them creating a mindless army of grunts that would follow his orders to a T, and Kendel named them the forged.

The second happening was one day while he was toying around with many of the great contraptions the his mind thought up, when he worked his forge so hard that the fire went out. Kendel feeling lost without his minds way of expressing himself politely asked Aryo to breathe a measure of his fire into it to rekindle the spark. As Ayro did this for him Kendal noticed the way the flames danced, almost as if the fire was alive and breathing and was inspired to mold the fire into Creatures and he was successful creating the first Embers. Also let it be known that one of the most important concepts of the mind is imagination, and without Kendel’s inspiration imagination would not exist.

Kendel’s worshipers include artists, poets, smiths, and engineers.

Ursa

Ursa is the bear goddess and the great guardian of the wild. Ursa was first encountered shortly after the appearance of Aryo in the time known as the great change. Ursa is often encountered in the forest, mountains, or at night. She rarely interacts with humans or the offshoots of humanity. When she speaks with the races of the world she prefers to interact with stoneborn and sprites.

While unafraid of rivers and streams, Ursa is well known for avoiding still pools and lakes. It is beyond rare to see Ursa in a building of any type she prefers the open air and the beauty of nature.

Ursa’s worshipers include; Shifters and forest dwellers

Lumen

Lumen is the god of light, the lord of the illumination and his presence is sorely missed. It has been some time since the lord of light was last seen roaming the skies though from time to time his subjects can be seen sprinting about. Sprinting subjects race about like sparks of light dancing about on a dark canvas.

Lumen’s worshipers have dwindled greatly in number since his disappearance.

In 702, after being released from Vellon's gord, Lumen tricked the citizens of Tarquinn into giving him Vellon's power and vowed vengence on the other gods of Order.

Harken

Harken, god of travel, messenger of the gods; looks like a cross between human and a great black bird. Harken is known for speed. It doesn’t matter whether the androgynous god of travel is running or flying Harken’s speed is legendary. It was Harken who first warned the Gods of Vanities disappearance. The first message Harken ever delivered was for Kendel. As payment Kendel created the orb of holding.

While powerful in his own right Harken has always demonstrated a desire for greater personal power and the orb grants that very thing. Each message delivered by Harken is paid for with a demonstration of power. The orb is able to hold one charge which Harken uses to demonstrate the validity of his message as well as a chance to experience greater ability.

Harken’s worshipers include messengers, sailors, and all manner of traveling people.

The Great Kraken

The Great Kraken has long been the master of the seas. No one is entirely certain where it came from its presence has not gone unnoticed. The Kraken’s arrival is marked by the death of the giant sea serpents that once held the sea in firmly in the grip of chaos. With the serpent’s demise the races of the world are free to sail the seas and expand from the island of Sanctuary.

The Great Kraken is known only as that. For no one divine or mortal has ever heard its voice. The silent protector prowls the ocean fighting with creatures of myth and legend. It is still undecided whether or not the Great Kraken is a god but it is revered just the same.

The Great Kraken’s worshipers include sailors, and pirates.
