The Incredible Adventures of Artonious and Finn

In a time now past there lived two Sprite brothers of great renown and their names where Artonious and Finn Guilder. Now Artonious and Finn lived in the forest and they loved their forest. Artonious was an archer and tracker and Finn was a shape shifter beyond compare and their stories will live forever.

The Guilder Boys and the Giant of Elder Forest

A great long time ago there was an evil giant who plagued the creatures and peoples of Elder Forest with his troublesome presence. Fortnately for the inhabitants of the great wood the Guilder boys were on the case. Now the evil giant, whose name in completely unimportant, had a funny habit of searching the tree tops for people to harass. It was this very habit that the brothers used to purge the forest. One day Artonious sat high up in a tree and called to the giant as loud as he could while his brother hid at the trees base as quite as a mouse. The silly giant charged up to Artonious who had his bow at the ready; notched and aimed at the belt of the troublesome intruder. When the giant got close Artonious shot an arrow faithful and true, disrobing his enemy. Meanwhile Finn had been a very busy boy at the base of the tree. He was gathering up all the local squirrels. Then at the moment the pants fell Finn shifted into a great cat scaring all the squirrels he had gathered. And where do squirrels run when they are scared? That’s right they run up. Usually they run up trees but sometimes, just sometimes they run up silly giant s legs and out of the Elder Forest forever.

The Guilder Boys and the Wounded Swan

A great long time ago on the rolling banks of Elder Lake Finn was splashing about the water dressed in the skin of an alligator when he saw a number of beautiful birds floating about the lake’s surface. Finn thought it would be great fun to swim underneath them to tickle their toes and so of course he did. Now if you are not a swan toe tickler you would not know it but all swans have very ticklish toes.

Finn swam up to the birds as stealthily as he could and one by one he tickled the swan toes just to watch them fly away giggling. After a minute of this all but one of the swans had flown across the lake. Confused by this Finn decided to ask the creature why it did not fly away. So up from the water the great lizard lifted his head and spoke; "Why do you not fly away when I tickle you? Do you not have tickly toes?"

"My toes tickle fine." The swan retorted. "But my wings don’t work. I got hurt and now I’m not a real swan." The swan sighed. "If only I could soar through the air once more I might remember what it feels like to be a real swan again." The sad swan lowered his head and swam away.

Finn felt terrible for scaring away all the swan’s friends so he went to find Artonious to tell him the story. Artonious also felt badly for the poor flightless swan and so he cooked up an idea. "Finn you find me that swan again and I will help him fly." When Finn returned with the swan he saw that Artonious had built the biggest arrow he had ever seen. The arrow was the size of Artonious’s arm and it had a little swan sized saddle which the swan sat in with no delay. At that point Artonious aimed his bow as high as he could and pulled back with all his strength. That day the wounded swan flew again and he said it gave him the best toe tickle ever.

The Guilder Boys and the Biggest Splash

Deep in Elder Forest at the heart of Elder Lake a contest was issued. Finn, the legendary shifter, challenged his brother Artonious, the great archer, to a splash contest. Artonious was never the type to deny a challenge and so he accepted and the contest began.

The great Archer climbed up from out of the water and tied a rope to one of his arrows. “This is no time for crafts and traps brother.” Finn laughed but Artonious continued to tie his rope unhindered by his siblings jest. Once the knot was tied Artonious loosed his arrow straight above his head. Ever the precise shot his arrow found its’ mark in the sizable branch which hung overhead. Artonious paused for a brief moment to smile knowingly at his brother before he began to climb.

Finn was not to out done for within the blink of an eye he borrowed the skin of the rat. “Thanks for the rope brother. Rats are excellent climbers when they have something to climb.”  It was with that comment and a smile on his lips that Finn climbed up and over his brother. Faster and further the rodent continued up the rope. “This should do nicely.” Finn laughed. Then he began to chew the rope. “It looks like your splash will not be from quite as high as you would like.” With those words the rope beneath him broke under the weight of Artonious.

“If I cannot climb to the fullest height you won’t either.” With those words yet on his lips the great archer loosed an arrow that cut the rope near the knot.

Not to be outdone the brother of many forms chose a new one. His fur thickened and his size more than doubled. He had turned himself into a mighty bear. Oh what a splash he may have made alone but his size made him fall too fast and he hit the water the very moment that Artonious did.
The brothers were unable to tell whose splash was best but they did decide that they made the best team splash in all of elder forest.
