Tideborn

When the Great Kraken began his rampage of cleansing the oceans of Chaos’ presence a group of devoted human worshippers followed him into the ocean to fight alongside him. They formed tribal costal colonies and spent their resources building weapons and ships so they could help rid the seas of the Chaos serpents that lurked in the depths below. After many battles the Great Kraken had claimed his throne in the western oceans of Panthes and rewarded his followers for their servitude. He offered his blood to their shamans and provided them the means to become his chosen people. Through a harrowing ritual where his people would drown themselves in the oceans they fought to reclaim they were brought back to life from the brink of death with a mixture derived from the Gods blood. The result was a monstrous transformation that turned the humans into aquatic fish-like creatures brimming with physical prowess. After generations of propagation, the people no longer required the ritual; they simply were the children of Kraken now. They named themselves the Tideborn, in honor of their beginnings and vowed to seek out and destroy Chaos wherever they may find it.

Physical Description

The Tideborn are humanoid in appearance with a few stark contrasts. They are much stronger than their human cousins and incredibly tough. Most have a layer of scales across their bodies, but a number tend to develop durable chitin plating. The ears of the Tideborn are fish-like and resemble fins. Some also grow fins on their elbows and knees, but this usually is a trait of the Tideborn of the deep sea. The color of a Tideborn’s scales can range across almost all colors and is usually indicative of their tribe.

Culture

The Tideborn are a simple people who favor hamlets and villages of close families compared to large cities or metropolises. Some tribes live entirely on ships that sail the ocean in search of Chaos. Others live deep within the ocean on fault lines and in ancient undersea settlements. Because of this, they tend to be less educated in scholarly areas, which resulted in a barbaric style of society. Most live in coastal towns that usually contain a few tribes. Each tribe elects an elder to the city’s council who helps lead the city. These elders are usually wise older members whose lust for battle was quenched long ago, which make them ideal for supervising the less level headed members of the tribe.

The Tideborn revere Kraken to the point that they have devoted their entire existence to serving him, but this doesn’t mean that they ignore the other Gods. Shamans and seers have much respect for Ursa and the natural world. This is believed to be the reason they have such a superstitious nature. Each tribe has intricate rituals and practices they perform for certain occasions, such as donning war paint for battle or offering favors to Ursa for a bountiful harvest. Many craftsmen pay tribute to Kendel by forging weapons of astounding quality. Fate is greatly respected, since he is the final judge of the worth of your life. And, as expected, Rhone is always honored before they take part in battle to ensure their victory.

The majority of Tideborn become warriors or crafters due to the strength and endurance needed for these professions. This also makes them ideal for adventure and exploration. Only recently have the Tideborn began moving inland to help fight the forces of Chaos. While aggressive and sometimes seen as having a suicidal level of dedication to combat, they also hold honor and respect as the most important traits. They may be the first to start a fight, but they are also the last that would want to bring dishonor of embarrassment to their tribe.
